About the Work
The way I see it......

When I say that my work is "traditional" photography, I mean that I capture the image using the traditional film method with a small format camera, a 35mm.  I pride myself on producing a photographic image that is full frame, not cropped, airbrushed or computer enhanced, thus producing a true image composed of light, color and subject.  Shooting traditonally makes you learn the mechanics of the camera, "F" stops, what a depth of field is, which lenses to use, and most important how to use light, both natural and artificial.  Sometimes, I will spend an hour and numerous frames shooting a flower, just waiting for the right light or the wind to stop.  Then other times one quick shot turns out to be the right shot.  How I frame the image through the lens is the composition I want to be reflected in the final photo.  Although I myself do not use a digital camera, it is not really the choice of the equipment that makes the shot.  It is knowing how to frame the shot and when to click the shutter that makes it a piece of art instead of a just a "picture."

I am especially fond of close-up shots that reflect the profound beauty found in the details of nature.  Getting an abstract view of the image is also very rewarding to me.  It gives the person viewing the art an opportunity to look at something they may see every day, but now they are seeing it from an entirely different perspective and with a new sense of beauty.  I truly hope that the image will cause the viewer to see the scene, or object, in a new light, with pleasure, and the desire to look upon it often - never tiring of the image.

Even though I am a traditional photographer, I am not a traditionalist when it comes to matting my images.  Color is my trademark.  I carefully select mat colors for each individual piece to enhance even the most subtle of colors within the print.  I like to be creative with my mats and use a  variety of techniques.  All prints are double matted and materials used are acid free.  The prints are on archival quality fine art paper which ensures that the prints will never fade.  The prints are personally signed by me and are numbered consecutively. A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies every piece.
